The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman harboring several human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct personas, each with unique anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, while other scenes show the protagonist navigating a desolate church.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central gameplay loop involves managing the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have large blooms growing from their necks are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, because every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
