Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
