Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Once more, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police shared security footage Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
