Citizens have assembled throughout the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated assault on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.
The attack resulted in over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most lethal day for Jewish people since the Second World War.
Israel answered by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.
"The aggressive opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the prime minister added on Tuesday.
He also promised to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".
The Israeli government rescheduled official memorials until October 16th - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred across the country on that day.
A commemorative event for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised throughout Israeli broadcast stations.
Hours earlier, a minute's silence was observed around the country.
Meanwhile, both sides' representatives gathered in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of indirect talks to review the terms of the plan.
A senior representative knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an late session of indirect talks began at evening in Egypt.
The representative explained the day's discussions finished without concrete outcomes, due to conflicting views over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart fighting after the initial stage of the arrangement.
He noted that the talks are "tough and have not yet produce any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are striving to close the gaps between the conflicting groups.
In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother endured the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were lost their lives and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until all the hostages come back not a single person will be secure."
"After we see everyone home returned, we can feel relief once more. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.
In front of the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to demonstrate their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel says forty-eight stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be alive.
Activist Atalia Regev explained: "We need do every compromise necessary for the captives to be released. But we sincerely need promises that we will be safe."
Opinion polls now consistently show that about the majority of the population desire the conflict to end in return for the freedom of the abducted.
At the location of the music event, mourners came together to pay their respects.
From the site, the boom of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli attacks carried on.
In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the dawn of that day in the western neighborhood, area and locality neighbourhoods and in the east side area of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.
"When the dusk arrives, the dread comes with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.
"My family are afraid of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are resting together, embracing, notably my youngest child who puts his face on me throughout the night."
"Every second we monitor the reports to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."
Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had taken in the remains of six people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.
