NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates features live text for the weekend matchups via various channels, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Also, radio commentary can be heard on designated networks covering a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).
It's week six in the football calendar and after last week's talk about two top teams being possible championship contenders, each surrendered their perfect starts.
Striking in those games were the number of penalties each conceded. The Eagles did so at crucial times meaning they essentially defeated themselves after leading 17-3 going into the final quarter versus the Denver Broncos, set to play overseas this weekend.
But it proved positive to observe that Denver quarterback Bo Nix was able to overcome the shortfall and then direct three scoring drives on three possessions in the fourth quarter, securing the game 21-17.
The Broncos have the top defender in cornerback their star corner. They are number one in goal-line defense, whereas Philadelphia lead the league in scoring near the end zone, yet the Broncos won that contest.
They had the Eagles' number regarding simulated pressure. They did not always rushing more than four pass rushers instead they might plug two linebackers in the 'A' gap then withdrawing them and send a nickel from the outside.
At the start of the season, it was noted during a show how Denver might emerge as this season's dark horses. They finished last season strongly then did a good job of building upon that.
Are the Denver Broncos this season's dark horses?
New tight end their tight end has excelled big and recent running back their rusher is a player they believe in. He now ranks fifth league-wide for rushing yards (402) and tied for fourth in rushing scores (four).
It's impressive that the coach Sean Payton displays "RUSH!" at the top on his call sheet.
This demonstrates that the Broncos represent a squad that wants to prioritize the run, since you can do a lot off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush and keeps you in favourable down and distances.
It's also benefited quarterback the young passer, who entered into the league as a first-round selection last year, passing for 29 touchdown passes – just behind Justin Herbert for the rookie record (31 in 2020).
Other elite QBs possess the arm strength to throw all over, but they lack in the same way that Nix has. He has exceptional passing ability, which is different, plus he's so athletic.
His strengths include his movement, being able to pass on the run, and using varied release points to deliver throws when he rolls outside protection, the bootlegs. He can throw precision throws over the middle or past defenders.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he's got a lot of composure in the pocket and is not really fazed by the blitz. He tries to avoid a sack whenever possible and can throw under pressure. He possesses a high football IQ and remains quick to decide.
If you consistently run the ball it consumes time and makes the defence to stay on the field for longer, and if you have an athletic quarterback the defence has to cover the field downfield and horizontally. It can be exhausting.
Nix has bitten back with the coach on the sideline at times and I think the coach likes that attitude, seeing him as a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for him to have a rookie QB who's kind of like moldable clay. He can truly build something up how he desires to shape him. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.
Payton has won a Super Bowl and now surpassed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen it all. I think the success the Broncos are having offensively is largely due to his guidance, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the pairing with the QB helps shape him what he is.
There's no better a better guy guiding you, to help you through difficult moments and boost confidence.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they good enough to face an elite team at its best? Since that was not a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles last Sunday.
Right now, I don't think Denver are incredible. They're performing better than most, which is a solid position to be in their division. All they need is to continue this path.
They're really good at embracing their strength, that is the ground game, and that's exactly what they must do versus the New York Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.
The Jets have allowed 140 yards on the ground per game (among the worst), five ground scores this season (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad yet to win any game.
Ever since the league began tracking takeaways decades ago, the Jets are also the inaugural squad to go without any turnovers through five games, which is kind of shocking when you think that their new coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, Denver have a smooth-ish schedule until their break (in week 12) - the Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans and the Raiders prior to the Chiefs.
In the AFC West, Kansas City are 2-3 while Denver are even with the Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could make a run at leading the West.
This hinges on which form Kansas City shows up they meet because Denver {beat|def
