Loyal supporters of the pop star are calling for that a man who leaped a barrier and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned security officers at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it started.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, earning a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
