Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
